TRAUMA THERAPY IN LONDON, ONTARIO

Trauma & Healing

Trauma is not defined by how bad an event looks from the outside. It is defined by what it did to you and what stayed afterward. That can follow a single incident, or years of something that never had a name.

You will not be asked to justify why it affected you.

Not sure what kind of support you need? We’ll help you find the right place to start.

Trauma can keep the past in the present.

What happened may be over, but your body can still respond as though it is not. Sleep, reactions, trust, and the constant bracing all carry it forward, often long after you have decided you should be past it by now. It is easy to feel that something is wrong with you for still being affected, especially when the people around you have moved on.

We support several areas of trauma and healing, and we want you to know:

you set the pace here, always.

Trauma Therapy

Some people arrive able to name exactly what happened. Others arrive knowing only that something is not right, and that it has been that way for a long time. Both are workable. Trauma therapy is less about retelling the event than about what the event left behind, and how much of your daily life is still organized around it.

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress can bring intrusive memories, nightmares, hypervigilance, and a pull to avoid anything that might set it off. Avoidance works in the short term, which is exactly what makes it hard to step away from. We work with that carefully rather than pushing through it.

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a structured approach used with traumatic memory. It involves working with a memory while following a repeated back-and-forth stimulus, which for many people makes difficult material more possible to process without talking through every detail. If putting it into words has been the barrier, this may be worth asking about.

Religious Trauma

Harm that happens inside a faith community is complicated by the fact that the same community may have been your support, your family, and your sense of meaning. Leaving, questioning, or simply naming what happened can cost you relationships. We will not push you toward or away from belief; that is yours to work out.

Attachment Wounds

Early relationships teach us what to expect from people, and those lessons run underneath adult life without announcing themselves. It can show up as bracing for abandonment, struggling to trust care when it is offered, or finding closeness and panic arriving together. None of that is a character flaw. We work with where it came from.

Your grief is welcome here.
Your pain is welcome here.
You are welcome here.

If any of this sounds like what you're carrying,

a free 15-minute consultation call is a low-pressure place to begin.

Areas Related to Trauma

Trauma overlaps with other things people come to us for, like traumatic loss (when a death was sudden or violent and grief and trauma arrive together), addiction and self-harm (when coping had to come from somewhere), or personality disorders (where early trauma is often part of the picture). Therapy isn't about perfect categories or starting points. We can simply meet you where you are, when you're ready.

How We Work: In-Person & Virtual Grief Counselling

In Person

We see clients in person at 130 Thompson Road in London, Ontario, inside the Thompson Medical Center (TMC+) with plenty of free parking available.

Virtually

Our therapists offer virtual trauma therapy across Ontario. Some people find it easier to do this work from a room that is already familiar and safe. You can read more about virtual therapy across Ontario if you'd like.

Approach

Trauma work is paced deliberately. Your therapist will spend time on stabilisation and coping before anything else, and you decide what you talk about and when. EMDR is one of the approaches available here; others draw on talk-based and body aware methods depending on what fits.

Naming what's wrong is hard. You don't have to do it alone or get it right on the first try. Let's start with a conversation, and we'll help you find the right place to start.

If you don't see your exact situation here, please reach out anyway. Chances are, we can help.

Common Questions About Trauma Therapy

What happens in a first trauma therapy session?

The first session is mostly you talking and your therapist listening, and it does not involve going into the trauma itself. You can expect to be asked what brought you in and what you would like support with. There is nothing you need to prepare.

Will I have to talk about what happened?

No. You are never asked to retell more than you want to, and a good deal of trauma work happens without going through the event in detail. You decide what you share and when.

How do I know if what I experienced counts as trauma

There is no threshold you have to meet. Trauma is about the effect something had on you rather than how it compares to anyone else's experience. If it is still shaping how you sleep, react or trust, that is reason enough.

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR is a structured approach used with traumatic memory. It involves recalling a memory while following a repeated back-and-forth stimulus, which many people find makes difficult material more possible to process without describing every detail aloud.

How long does trauma therapy take?

It varies, and often greatly, depending on the person and on what they are working with. Some people come for a focused stretch of sessions, others stay longer. You and your therapist will review your goals and progress together.

Do you offer virtual therapy across Ontario?

Yes, we offer secure video sessions anywhere in Ontario, as well as in person at our London office.

What does therapy cost?

Current fees are listed on our therapy pricing page. Many extended health plans provide coverage, though what is covered depends on your insurance plan and your therapist's designation.

What do I do if I'm not sure where to start?

That is completely normal. We invite you to call or text (226) 224-0301, and we will help you find the best way to begin.
