A Bit About Me

Hi there,

I'm Brenda Deaves.

As a therapist I specialize in the areas of loss and grief, trauma, self-sabotaging behaviours, and difficult life transitions, along with anxiety and depression.

I work with clients from a person-centered approach, where my main priority is to create a safe environment for the two of us to work from collaboratively, and at a pace that works for you.

Raised among a family of immigrants in rural Ontario, the values of resilience, perseverance, and community mindedness were instilled in me from a very young age. I have carried these values with me throughout my life and career, and into my practice as a psychotherapist.

My passion for counselling comes from what I have lived, studied and learned, in part through my own direct experiences with loss, addiction, anger and perfectionism. These lived experiences are what help me to show up for my clients authentically and compassionately.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Thanatology from the University of Western Ontario, and a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am a member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

Prior to joining the practice at Authentic Living London I worked previously in long term care, and I continue to facilitate a bereavement support group. These experiences have further developed my deep capacity for compassion, and my ability to be truly present with clients while sharing in their painful feelings. â€‹

Although the neuroscience geek in me recognizes that change can be very hard, I firmly believe that it is possible for each and every one of us, regardless of our age or our life circumstance. I am here to walk beside you in these difficult times of transition.

I am available at Authentic Living London for both in-person and virtual sessions, and invite you to connect with me for a free 15 minute phone consultation to get started. â€‹

Areas of Focus

Anger Management

When anger becomes overwhelming or leads to hurtful actions, it can cause problems in your relationships, work, and daily life. If you feel like anger is controlling you instead of the other way around, you’re not alone—and help is available.

Life Transitions

Divorce and breakups, shifting family or social dynamics and identity changes can all lead to feelings of loss. We offer specialized therapy in London, Ontario to help you name what’s missing, honour your experience, and move through change with support.

Anxiety

Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to manage it alone. We provide anxiety counselling in London, Ontario that helps you identify triggers, shift unhelpful thought patterns, and develop grounding techniques. Whether you experience panic, social anxiety, or constant worry, we’re here to help.

Grief & Bereavement

Whether you are coping with the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a major life change, or any form of bereavement, Brenda offers a safe and supportive space to process your feelings.

Alcohol Use

Alcohol use that feels out of control is often symptomatic of deeper, underlying issues. In sessions with Brenda, she will help identify the underlying causes and triggers of alcohol use, and how to manage urges when they present themselves.
